The HybridKnife is a new ERBE instrument for the surgical treatment of early carcinomas by endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). By combining a electrosurgical electrode with a waterjet noozle this multifunctional probe could perform all working steps of an ESD without switching between instruments.

The basic equipment for ESD using the HybridKnife consists of a VIO 200 S with ERBEJET 2. The workstation can be upgraded to include APC 2 (Argon-Plasma Coagulation) and/or the EIP irrigation pump.

As no change of instruments is required during ESD procedures ERBE HybridKnife rerduces operating times and therefore costs. Previously, it was necessary to switch between an injection needle and an ESD knife, but with HybridKnife the users can work using a single instrument.

The HybridKnife clearly reduces the risk of perforation through the possibility of re-elevating the fluid cushion at any time during the dissection procedure.

The needleless elevation means a much lower risk of injury to blood vessels and the muscularis and, therefore, a lower risk of bleeding. The functional principle is the preservation of tissue and nerves.
