ERBE Tradition - 1847 to 1962
From generation to generation: milestones of success.
Progress. Since its earliest beginnings at 1847, ERBE has maintained a tradition of close cooperation with well-known doctors. This has provided the basis for a success story which has gone on from generation to generation and still continues today.

Working closely with university professors he developed trend-setting new designs, for example for Prof. Dr. von Bruns, the world famous surgeon and pioneer of laryngeal surgery. |
|
Together with Prof. Bruns Christian Erbe built new instruments for
galvanocaustic applications - the medical application of a metal wire
heated by means of electrical current for coagulation (hemostasis) and
separation of biological tissue. The instruments were so good that they
were used for decades. The galvanocaustic instruments after Prof. Bruns are some of the earliest electrosurgical instruments worldwide. |
|
In 1882 Christian Gottfried Erbe (1855 - 1907) took over the business.
He developed numerous different batteries and induction apparatuses for
medical treatments, for example for stimulation current treatments. His
products attracted much interest internationally and were awarded a
prize at the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893. In 1901 Christian
Gottfried Erbe was appointed purveyor to the court of the King of
Württemberg. |
|
From 1907 on, Christian Otto Erbe (1884 - 1965) began to be involved in the management of the company. Christian Otto Erbe attended the series of lectures held by Prof. Paschen on experimental physics and particularly studied the problems of the optics of the eye. Christian Otto Erbe was director of the company in the difficult period of the worldwide economic crisis and the First and Second World Wars. Under his management the company was transformed from a craftsman?s establishment into an industrial firm. |
